About Melanie

Melanie is a Toronto native who has been dancing since the age of four. She studied various forms of dance such as Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Modern, Flamenco, Latin, Ballroom and Salsa. She attended Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts in high school where she studied in their dance program and continued her post secondary education at York University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance.

Melanie has taught many levels of dance to children and adults in Ballroom, Latin and Salsa around Canada and the US. Several of her students have went on and competed in Pro-Am competitions.

She has taught at many dance studios, High Schools and Universities in Canada and the U.S. She has also participated in many national competitions around the world. Melanie was also a top 18 contestants on So You Think You Can Dance Canada as a salsa/ ballroom dancer.

In 2010 Melanie decided broaden her dance career to move to Los Angeles to pursue her dreams as a performer. She has worked with some of the industries top choreographers on stage and on set. She has also performed on stage with artists such as J-Lo, Pitbull, and Neyo, and has performed in various live shows and award shows.

Melanie has had the opportunity to tour the world with musician Robert Michaels, who also happens to be her father. She has been dancing flamenco in his concerts and shows since the age of 13. She truly enjoys performing in her dad’s show’s, as they are some of the most memorable experiences she has performing on stage.

In addition to stage performance, Melanie has also appeared in several film productions both as a dancer and an actress. She been seen in numerous national commercials, such as Budweiser, Sony, Phillips, Carnival Cruise Lines, Bud Light, to name a few, as well as short and feature length films.

In learning about the joy that dance spreads to others, Melanie was inspired to create an outreach dance program in Los Angeles where she recruited a number of renowned choreographers to be a part of her team to give back. The program is called Fostering Dreams Through Dance, to empower and educate foster youth and at risk youth to find their voice through the art of dance. Melanie and her team are currently working with various organizations to bring dance education and empower today’s youth.
